“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. “Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Mattew 7. 13, 14
Most of use thrive on acceptance:
We want others to approve and appreciate the things we do and value. Anything we perceive to threaten or deprive us of affirmation we naturally avoid.
This tendency steers us to “the broad” path.
It is the path of least resistance. Apart from actively monitoring our thoughts and values to identify influences contrary to Christian beliefs, our desire to fit in moves us inexorably to this path.
A New Years resolution for the Christ follower is to be honest with ourselves.
Our path is a lonely path at times. Others will not always appreciate or understand our sensitivities. If this is happening to you, congratulations!
Maturing in our faith requires we take the lonely exit instead of simply going with the flow.
