“…A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together … A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war …”
Ecclesiastes 3.4,5,9
Christians have an uneasy relationship with politics. We know that God has a purpose for each thing he allows; we know we have a free will and that arguing with God is a losing proposition: The tension comes as we trust the Lord to lead us in our personal lives and guide us in the performance of our civic duties. Our freedoms in the West come with a caveat: They empower us to act. If we do nothing our “inaction” empowers other forces to decide for us.
Honest debate contrasting substantive policy disputes during the recent election cycle were missing. What we were left with is shallow caricatures of each candidate. Politics is always messy business, even more so with the influence of technology. Prior to the internet, news outlets were a primary source for real information. Citizens in western countries could rely on the major media to authenticate stories and vet them for truthful content. Even tabloids often contained news, though given to sensationalise and gossip. Eastern Bloc countries however, had state run media; their “news” was suspect and routinely discounted as propaganda. It’s no accident this has become the model for the West.
Rapidly developing technology platforms and the expansion of the internet upended these distinctions. It’s much more difficult to distinguish what is real from what is fake, deliberately misrepresented, or even more deceptive, purposely screened or withheld. There are numerous examples of media fabricating the “news;” deliberately lying; or misrepresenting the facts. In the Trump era, nothing more infamously then “Russia Collusion.” This led to President Trump’s impeachment, all based on accusations and lies.
Indefensible reporting claimed Trump was lying about his “Warp Speed” Covid19 antivirus initiative. His promise of a vaccine delivered to the American public by the end of 2020 was routinely dismissed and scoffed at by the media and the Presidents critics. Purported mishandling of Covid19 turned what, undoubtably will be one of Trumps greatest achievements, into a negative and center piece of Vice-President Biden’s campaign. There are now three vaccines likely to be approved for use within the next couple of weeks proving once again, it was the media who lied, not the president.
Supression of news favoring Trump continues to fuel hatred for the president. Many Trump haters still don’t know the Trump administration championed major legislation on prison reform, opportunity zones and support for black colleges, to build a bridge to the black community. Prior to Covid19, the Trump economy narrowed the gap between America’s richest and poorest for the first time in a half-century disproportionately benefiting blacks and minorities.
The Trump haters were left unaware of the danger Vice-President Biden’s family enterprise represents to America. His influence pedaling provided financial opportunities for family members and Biden himself, in China, Ukraine, Russia and numerous other foreign countries. The Biden “pay to play” schemes are well documented. They erode our moral authority, compromise our integrity and are dangerous to our national security.
If you believe any of the above statements are untrue, then you’ve been deceived. There is abundant proof of each of these assertions if you’re willing to investigate. If you’ve been deceived, and you care, then it is time to reassess those “trusted” sites you’ve relied upon for your information. They have mislead and deceived you, not informed you.
As we make political decisions remember, America is a city on a hill for much of the world. But hope must be built on truth. Our choices are only as good as the information we rely upon to inform them.-President Biden’s campaign was built on lies and paper ballots. Paper ballots cast in deception to build a house of cards. America can not prosper with such a building whose foundation is shifting sand.
Never forget what the Biblical King Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, stated so clearly “…To everything there is a season…a time for peace and a time for war…” This is a time for war! Not with physical forces, but in the spiritual realm. A war fought on the field of ideas. A battle for truth. A battle to define the soul of our nation. Citizens of character and conviction are the foot soldiers; 2020 is our call to action.
