Comfort Food and Comfort News have Something in Common

Sixty-four percent of Americans identify social media as their primary source of information. They consent to having their information prescreened and delivered by small caste of media oligarchs: Empowered by their own counsel, they regulate the flow of information in carefully prescribed doses. Protected by section 230 rules, they shred the First Amendment rights of others while basking under its protections.

This media fascism will produce an Orwellian uprising the likes of which has not happened since the French Revolution. Those who rely on these platforms as their primary news source are treated like captives who voluntarily disabuses themselves of their right to the free flow of information. In exchange, the platform suppresses or removes information they determine to be offensive or which may cause discomfort: Information which conflicts with the views of those administering the platform.

These new oligarchs of thought substitute propaganda for truth. They lure the unsuspecting with the promise of a voice but deliver a bait and switch. The ensuing web of misinformation rewrites history, while suppressing or preventing inconvenient truth from disturbing the subscriber. Their captives are programmed to become sympathetic to their captors; a high tech version of the “Stockholm Syndrome.”

History is clear. Our nations founding was guided by Christian principles and values pursuit to Biblical truth. The attendant blessings of this arrangement are the means which have guided us past the shortcomings of the human heart. Truth is the only means by which error is rooted out and justice secured but it requires an informed electorate; a democracies greatest asset.

Our democracy, conceived and based upon Christian principles requires faithful Christians to participate with informed choices; but godly influence in governance should not be confused with a Christian theocracy. The US cannot be a “Christian” nation. It has been and must be a nation of great Christian influence which welcomes citizens of all backgrounds to dwell in freedom and safety.

Federal governance must always seek the umbrella of truth, but conflicting views require a majority to be acted upon. This process is often painful and popular opinion is not always a metric for good governance. Christian principles and influence cut through the partisan tendencies and restore health when the partisanship overwhelms good policy.

A farmer knows, the seeds we sow are the seeds we harvest. Except by God's grace, life works that way most of the time. I am deeply indebted to my creator, the one and only true God who gives life to all things by his grace, through his son Jesus Christ. I am grateful for the lessons I've learned from my farming heritage and the privilege of partnering in the cycle of life each new growing season.
