A media free of suppression is a basic element of the American experience. Enshrined in the First Amendment, the freedom to speak our minds and the freedom of media to inform our minds go hand in hand.
This symbiotic arrangement has been affectionately dubbed (Can something prickly can be affectionate?) the “fourth branch” of government; the idea being an informed electorate is essential for a democratically elected government to function effectively. Freedom of speech is critical in disseminating the ideas and information which a free people use to make informed choices.
What does the over used term “mainstream media” actually mean? It’s a modern reference to a smaller group of media giants. This influential compendium historically was the primary means by which information was discovered and disseminated to the american public. The influence of our formerly “Main Stream Media” has morphed into a propaganda arm of the democrat party.
That these secular guardians of free speech have transformed into denizens of partisan thought police, garnering big tech platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Google to expand their reach and further restrict the free exchange of ideas and information, is an assault on the very foundations of our nation.
They use their monopolistic power to suppress the free exchange of ideas in violation of those core principles that have been foundational to our free society. It represents an existential threat to freedom itself. The so-called “Main Street” media have become nothing more than partisan apparatchiks who assign labels like racist, bigot, and anti-science to those they can’t shame into silence. Their purpose is to censor and ultimately cancel opposing thoughts and ideas.
They are bullies whose followers must forfeit their freedom to think for themselves; suborning it to those who misuse it for partisan advantage. They risk losing it. Knowledge provides an immunity from this virus of ignorance. In their socialist world, information is dangerous and must be metered carefully. Those who comply are labeled as good neighbors and caring.
In this new age of unreason, fear mongering fueled by accusations and hyperbole, replace thoughtful debate. Exploitation of grievances has become the modus operandi of these terrorist of freedom. They seek power at any price. It is no stretch to suggest their corrosive efforts endanger our continued existence as a free people.
