Our Day’s Are Numbered

Age provides opportunities if we’re willing.

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply

our hearts unto wisdom.”

Psalms 90.12

As we age, the reality of this truth becomes more apparent.

When I was younger, this admonition from Psalms seemed a long way off. None of us have the promise of tomorrow and youth provides a buffer for life’s blunders.

Experience’s are a two edged sword:

They can help us safely navigate troubled waters: That’s wisdom. They can also saddle us with doubt and fear; fear that blinds us to the opportunities accruing with age. That’s disabling and undermines faith.

Raising families is demanding physically, spiritually and materially.

These resources are stretched to the limit through the child bearing years and until children are safely on their own. Parents who recognize their limitations and prioritize these needs often are required to delay pursuing the material interests.

The empty nest provides opportunities, if we’re willing!

The challenge is to keep our eyes focused on serving God faithfully in every stage of life. I want to use experience to empower action through faith, not fear.

“… let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands… yea, the work of our hands establish…”

Psalms 90.17

By Merle Mullet

A farmer knows, the seeds we sow are the seeds we harvest. Except by God's grace, life works that way most of the time. I am deeply indebted to my creator, the one and only true God who gives life to all things by his grace, through his son Jesus Christ. I am grateful for the lessons I've learned from my farming heritage and the privilege of partnering in the cycle of life each new growing season.
