“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen”
Hebrews 11.1
You can see why polititians of both parties become religious in the heat of election politics. Their promises become the “substance of things hoped for” by their constituencies. It’s not till after the election that the second half of the verse is fulfilled; “…evidence of things unsceen.”
Unfortunately, that’s the extent of most political pontificating. Moistened finger in the air, to sense which direction the slightest waft of public sentiment is stirring; to make sure they’ve positioned their firmly held convictions properly. You’d think a sense of moral rectitude, coupled with the knowledge that in our day, every former deeply held belief is recorded somewhere; would restrain the tendency.
Never mind, it doesn’t matter. With the ease of a chameleon changing its color, a politician can exchange a former conviction for it’s new antithesis at a moments notice. Flexibility is the key. For the rest of us a question needs to be asked. Are we the target of this kind of crap? If so, we’d better look in the mirror. If the person you see can be appealed to by empty tripe, that person is as devoid of substance as the image peering back at them.
Jesus was not your average politician. Thank you Lord!
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
